Dr.
He
directs the Computational Design
and Manufacturing Laboratory. The goal of his research is to create
computational tools and methods for design and manufacturing automation with
emphasis on computational techniques enabling micro/nano systems realization.
His work focuses on geometric and physical modeling. Areas of interests include
design automation, manufacturing, robotics, and micro/nano-systems. His
current projects are centered on the following two topics. 1.
Computer-aided
micro/nano manipulation: The ability to image and manipulate objects at the nanometer length
scale is of fundamental importance to the flourishing nanotechnology field.
Our research focuses on developing tools and methods for automating nano
manipulation via atomic force microscopy. 2.
Computational
sensing and geometric processing of massive point-cloud data: Rapid advancement of
3D sensing techniques has spurred the growing use of massive point-cloud data
in various 3D applications. Our research focuses on developing mathematical
foundation and computational techniques for effectively processing massive point-cloud
data. He
teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in Nanoscale
Imaging and Manipulation, CAD/CAM, and design and
manufacturing. Professional
